She is both Mexican and American. Since she was a child she's always been interested playing sports. Gerina started to play golf when she was 15 years old. Gerina was a student at Goddard High School. As a senior in the high school level, she was able to win her first prize in the New Mexico state golf tournament. In addition to her volleyball game, she participated on the state level. The year 2003 was the year she began her studies in The University of Texas.
